    Overview

    What is Image Resizer?

The Image Resizer adjusts photo dimensions directly in your web browser. Scale pictures by exact pixel values, scale proportionally by percentage, or choose ready-made presets for social networks and passport requirements. Choose contain, cover, or stretch fitting to control exact framing. All processing runs privately on your device using Web Workers, with no file uploads, no sign-up, no watermarks, and no limits.

    Processing

    Read the full guide

Resizing image dimensions is one of the most common graphic tasks on the web. Whether you need to fit strict upload specifications on a governmental portal, adapt banners for social platforms, or prepare responsive assets for a web application, having exact dimensional control without privacy compromises is essential.

Three flexible modes for every scaling task

The Image Resizer accommodates different workflows through three distinct operational modes:

    1. Pixels mode: Enter exact pixel targets for width and height. When the aspect ratio lock is enabled, typing a value into one field automatically calculates the complementary dimension based on your source image ratio. Disabling the lock enables independent dimensional adjustments.
    2. Percent mode: Scale photos relative to their current size using an intuitive slider from 10 percent up to 400 percent. This mode is ideal for quickly creating half-size or quarter-size preview copies while keeping natural proportions unaltered.
    3. Preset mode: Choose standard platform formats with one click. Preconfigured profiles include Instagram Post (1080 × 1080), Instagram Story (1080 × 1920), YouTube Thumbnail (1280 × 720), Facebook Cover (820 × 312), X Header (1500 × 500), LinkedIn Banner (1584 × 396), US Passport (600 × 600), and UK/EU Passport (413 × 531).

Understanding framing methods: Contain, Cover, and Stretch

When resizing an image to target dimensions that have a different aspect ratio than your original photo, you can choose how the image fits the new container:

    • Contain: Fits the complete original photo within the target boundary without discarding any visual information. The aspect ratio is preserved strictly. If the target ratio differs, the output size matches the scaled photo bounds.
    • Cover: Fills the target width and height completely by scaling proportionally and cropping excess content symmetrically from the center. This is the recommended option for social banners, square profile photos, and passport headshots where edge elements can be trimmed to fill standard proportions.
    • Stretch: Forces the image pixels to match both target dimensions exactly, ignoring original proportions. This method avoids cropping but may distort faces or objects if the aspect ratio changes noticeably.

Complete on-device privacy and offline capability

Traditional online image editors require uploading your personal photos to cloud servers, where they may be stored, analyzed, or exposed to network transmission interception. Glowpixel Labs eliminates server reliance entirely.

Every scaling step executes in your browser through sandboxed Web Workers and high-performance Canvas rendering contexts. Your photos never travel across the internet. Once the tool finishes initial loading, you can safely disconnect from Wi-Fi or cellular data and continue resizing batches of images offline.

      FAQ

      Questions, answered

Common questions about formats, privacy, performance, and offline capabilities.

What is the difference between Contain, Cover, and Stretch fit?

Contain scales the image to fit entirely within the target box without cropping any pixels. Cover scales the image to fill the target box completely, centering the picture and cropping excess edges. Stretch forces the image to fill the exact width and height, which alters aspect ratio if dimensions do not match.

How does the aspect ratio lock work?

When the lock icon is active, entering a new width automatically calculates the matching height to preserve the natural proportions of your photo, and vice versa. Clicking the lock icon lets you set custom width and height independently.

Can I enlarge small images with this tool?

Yes, you can upscale images up to four times their original dimensions (up to a maximum boundary of 16,384 pixels per side). For significant enlargement requiring detail hallucination, our upcoming AI Upscaler provides specialized reconstruction.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. All resizing calculations and canvas rendering happen directly inside your web browser on your own device using Web Workers. Your files are never transmitted across the network or stored on remote servers.

Which image formats can I resize?

You can resize JPG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF photos. Each resized file preserves its original image format, so transparent PNG graphics remain transparent and photographic JPEGs stay in JPEG format.

Can I resize multiple images at the same time?

Yes. You can drop up to 200 photos or an entire folder into the dropzone. The engine processes each file in background worker threads, and you can download all completed images together in a single ZIP file.

What happens if an image is too large to process?

To protect browser tab stability, the engine sets a safety limit of 50 megapixels for single canvas allocations and limits dimension values to 16,384 pixels per side. If a file exceeds safe bounds, the tool provides a clear notification rather than crashing your tab.

Does resizing an image reduce its file size?

Scaling down pixel dimensions naturally reduces the total number of pixels stored, which significantly lowers file weight. For maximum compression without changing dimensions, use our companion Image Compressor tool.

Can I use the Image Resizer offline?

Yes. Because all image processing code is loaded into your browser cache, you can disconnect from the internet after opening the page and continue resizing photos offline.
