How to crop and rotate your images

    1. Choose your photo

Select any image from your computer or phone. Your photo loads directly into the interactive crop canvas.

    2. Adjust frame and angle

Drag the crop handles or use keyboard arrows. Pick aspect ratios, rotate 90 degrees, or level horizons with straighten.

    3. Download clean crop

Export in your preferred format and quality. Transparent corners are preserved for circular and ellipse crops.

    Aspect-locked precision

Lock proportions to popular social standards, passport sizing, or custom dimensions with pixel-accurate readout.

    Free-angle straightening

Level crooked horizons smoothly from -45° to +45° with automated canvas bounding-box calculations.

    Complete local privacy

All cropping, rotation matrices, and encoding run on your device processor with zero network data transfer.

    Overview

    What is Crop & Rotate?

This page opens Crop & Rotate with the 16:9 widescreen ratio locked. Position and resize the frame, level the image if necessary, set the exact output pixel dimensions, and review the rendered result before saving.

    Processing

    What happens to your photo

Four-step on-device pipeline from intake to final encoding without server roundtrips.

    Intake

Decodes photo headers in browser memory, respecting embedded EXIF orientations automatically.

    Transform

Applies hardware-accelerated 2D affine matrix transforms for rotation, flipping, and straighten angles.

    Clip

Calculates bounding limits, aspect constraints, and optional circular alpha masks for smooth corners.

    Encode

Exports the cropped canvas to your chosen format and quality with local memory reclamation.

    Zero data leakage

Your personal pictures and confidential documents never leave your phone or computer.

    Circle & ellipse crops

Create circular profile photos with transparent PNG or WebP corners ready for immediate avatar use.

    Touch & keyboard control

Nudge 1 pixel with arrow keys, 10 pixels with Shift, zoom with plus/minus, or drag 44px touch targets.

    Exact output dimensions

View real-time pixel widths and heights, and type target dimensions directly into the editable fields.

    EXIF-aware orientation

Smartphone camera photos are uprighted before you begin cropping so your framing is always accurate.

    Runs anywhere offline

Operates fully in modern web browsers even when disconnected from cellular or Wi-Fi internet.

The 16:9 aspect ratio is the familiar wide rectangle used by modern video frames, televisions, monitors, presentation slides, and many website hero areas. Preparing a true widescreen crop gives you control over composition before another application attempts an automatic center cut or adds unwanted empty bars.

This preset opens the Crop & Rotate tool with 16:9 locked. The frame can become larger or smaller, but its proportions remain sixteen units wide by nine units high. You choose its location, so the final result can follow the subject rather than the mathematical center of the source.

Aspect ratio is not the same as resolution

Several common pixel sizes share a 16:9 ratio: 1920 × 1080, 1280 × 720, and 3840 × 2160 are examples. The ratio describes shape, while resolution describes the number of pixels. This page does not assume that every result should be 1920 × 1080. Instead, the output dimension fields let you select a size appropriate for your destination.

Choose a resolution that the source can support. If the selected crop contains only 900 pixels across, requesting a much larger result will scale those pixels but cannot reveal new detail. For a small web banner, fewer pixels may be efficient; for a full-screen slide or video cover, a larger source crop is preferable.

Recompose portrait, square, and camera images

Most cameras capture at 4:3 or 3:2 rather than 16:9. Converting those images to widescreen removes some height. A portrait source requires an even more selective horizontal slice. This does not have to be destructive to the composition if you decide deliberately what the widescreen frame should communicate.

Move the frame vertically to balance sky and ground in a landscape. For people, avoid cutting through faces, hands, or joints, and leave room in the direction a person is looking. For video cover images, consider where titles, duration badges, or interface controls may appear later. The crop tool does not add text or platform overlays, so you retain a clean master image.

Keyboard control helps with exact placement. Arrow keys nudge the selected frame by one pixel; Shift plus an Arrow key moves it ten pixels. Plus and minus resize the frame while maintaining the chosen proportion. Pointer handles provide larger touch targets on phones and tablets.

Level the scene before selecting the final edges

A wide horizon makes even a small tilt noticeable. Use the straighten slider for corrections between -45 and 45 degrees, then reposition the 16:9 crop to avoid exposed corners. The left and right rotation buttons handle images that need full 90-degree changes. Horizontal and vertical flip controls are available for deliberate mirrored compositions.

The live preview shows the transformed crop. Recheck it after every angle adjustment because free rotation changes the safe usable bounds of the picture.

    Choose an appropriate format

JPEG is generally efficient for photographic scenes and includes a quality setting. PNG is lossless and may be more suitable for screenshots, slides with crisp interface details, or graphics with text. WebP offers another modern choice where supported. The crop is rectangular, so it does not need transparency unless the source and chosen format use it for some other reason.

If you already have the right composition and only need a different pixel size, use the image resizer. To reduce bytes after cropping, use the image compressor. The image converter is available when the destination requires another file format.

Keep private images on your device

Unpublished video artwork, business presentations, family photographs, and client assets can contain sensitive visual information. The selected file is processed in your browser rather than sent to a remote image service. Nothing is uploaded for the crop to work, and the source file remains unchanged. Read the privacy policy for additional information.

Before saving, confirm the exact output dimensions, inspect all four crop edges, and check whether later text or controls need clear space. The result is a deliberate 16:9 image rather than a generic center crop chosen by another platform.

      FAQ

      Questions, answered

Common questions about formats, privacy, performance, and offline capabilities.

      What does 16:9 mean?

It means the image is sixteen units wide for every nine units high. Resolutions such as 1920 × 1080 and 1280 × 720 share that proportion.

Does this preset force 1920 × 1080 pixels?

No. It locks the proportion, while the editable dimensions let you choose a suitable 16:9 resolution for your destination and source quality.

Can I make a 16:9 crop from a portrait photo?

Yes, but a wide crop from a tall source retains only part of its height. Move the frame carefully to keep the most important subject matter.

Will the crop add black bars?

No. The crop selects a true 16:9 region from the source. It does not letterbox the image or add bars around it.

      Is processing private?

Yes. The image is decoded, cropped, previewed, and encoded on your device. Nothing is uploaded to a processing server.
