How to crop and rotate your images

    1. Choose your photo

Select any image from your computer or phone. Your photo loads directly into the interactive crop canvas.

    2. Adjust frame and angle

Drag the crop handles or use keyboard arrows. Pick aspect ratios, rotate 90 degrees, or level horizons with straighten.

    3. Download clean crop

Export in your preferred format and quality. Transparent corners are preserved for circular and ellipse crops.

    Aspect-locked precision

Lock proportions to popular social standards, passport sizing, or custom dimensions with pixel-accurate readout.

    Free-angle straightening

Level crooked horizons smoothly from -45° to +45° with automated canvas bounding-box calculations.

    Complete local privacy

All cropping, rotation matrices, and encoding run on your device processor with zero network data transfer.

    Overview

    What is Crop & Rotate?

This page opens Crop & Rotate with a horizontal flip enabled. Toggle horizontal or vertical mirroring, combine both when needed, adjust the crop and output dimensions, and inspect the live result before saving.

    Processing

    What happens to your photo

Four-step on-device pipeline from intake to final encoding without server roundtrips.

    Intake

Decodes photo headers in browser memory, respecting embedded EXIF orientations automatically.

    Transform

Applies hardware-accelerated 2D affine matrix transforms for rotation, flipping, and straighten angles.

    Clip

Calculates bounding limits, aspect constraints, and optional circular alpha masks for smooth corners.

    Encode

Exports the cropped canvas to your chosen format and quality with local memory reclamation.

    Zero data leakage

Your personal pictures and confidential documents never leave your phone or computer.

    Circle & ellipse crops

Create circular profile photos with transparent PNG or WebP corners ready for immediate avatar use.

    Touch & keyboard control

Nudge 1 pixel with arrow keys, 10 pixels with Shift, zoom with plus/minus, or drag 44px touch targets.

    Exact output dimensions

View real-time pixel widths and heights, and type target dimensions directly into the editable fields.

    EXIF-aware orientation

Smartphone camera photos are uprighted before you begin cropping so your framing is always accurate.

    Runs anywhere offline

Operates fully in modern web browsers even when disconnected from cellular or Wi-Fi internet.

Flipping an image creates a mirrored arrangement without changing its overall width-to-height ratio. It can redirect a portrait’s gaze, place visual weight on the opposite side of a layout, correct a scan made from the reverse side, or create a reflection-like variation for design work. The transformation is simple, but checking the content is important because every pixel—including text—is mirrored.

This page opens the Crop & Rotate tool with horizontal flip selected. The live preview shows the mirrored result, and the vertical control remains available for top-to-bottom reversal. You can disable the preset, combine both axes, rotate, straighten, or crop before saving.

    Horizontal and vertical mirroring explained

A horizontal flip reflects the picture across a vertical line through its center. A person looking toward the left will appear to look toward the right. An object near the left boundary moves to the corresponding position near the right boundary. This is the transformation people usually mean by “mirror image.”

A vertical flip reflects the picture across a horizontal center line. The top becomes the bottom, so it is less common for ordinary photography but useful for reflected designs, unusual scanner output, textures, and some technical image workflows.

Applying both flips reverses both axes. Geometrically, that has the same final orientation as rotating the image 180 degrees. Separate toggles are still useful when you are comparing states or combining mirroring with a 90-degree rotation.

Check text, symbols, and recognizable asymmetry

Mirroring a plain portrait may look natural, but printed details can reveal the transformation. Shirt lettering, road signs, clocks, product labels, signatures, musical instruments, and logos all become backward after a horizontal flip. The tool does not selectively restore text because that would alter only part of the image and could produce a misleading result.

Review the live preview at a scale where words and directional symbols are visible. For documentary, identification, medical, legal, or evidence-related pictures, preserve the truthful orientation unless a clearly disclosed mirrored copy is appropriate. A flip changes spatial relationships even though it does not invent new pixels.

Improve layout balance with a mirrored composition

Designers often flip a decorative or editorial photo to create space for adjacent copy. If a subject faces the outer edge of a banner, mirroring can make the gaze lead inward toward a headline. A product with a large empty background on one side may fit a card more effectively when that empty space sits beneath interface text.

After flipping, use the crop box to remove unused edges or emphasize the revised visual flow. The Free aspect keeps flexible proportions, while aspect chips can lock the frame to square, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 9:16, 4:5, or passport proportions. Arrow keys move the focused crop one pixel, and Shift plus an Arrow key moves it ten pixels.

Preserve the resolution you actually need

A flip itself does not require a smaller output. If you retain the full frame, the width and height can remain equal to the decoded source orientation. Cropping changes those bounds, and the editable output-size controls let you choose a final pixel size. Avoid enlarging a small source far beyond its native dimensions because mirroring cannot restore missing detail.

JPEG works well for ordinary photos and provides a quality setting. PNG is a good choice for screenshots or graphics with crisp edges, while WebP suits compatible modern workflows. Saving creates a new result and leaves the original source untouched.

If your only goal is changing dimensions, use the image resizer. For a smaller file, use the image compressor, and for a different container format use the image converter.

    A private browser-based transformation

Mirroring is performed in local browser memory using the image canvas pipeline. Your selected photo is not sent to Glowpixel Labs, an image-processing API, or a cloud editor. Nothing is uploaded. See the privacy policy for details about the site’s treatment of data.

Before saving, verify the chosen axis, inspect any text, check that the crop includes every important edge, and confirm the output dimensions. A quick visual review prevents the most common mistake: saving a technically correct mirror that reverses information you intended to keep readable.

      FAQ

      Questions, answered

Common questions about formats, privacy, performance, and offline capabilities.

What does a horizontal flip do?

It mirrors the image from left to right, so content formerly on the left appears on the right. It is similar to viewing the scene in a mirror.

What does a vertical flip do?

It mirrors the image from top to bottom. The top edge moves to the bottom and the bottom edge moves to the top.

      Can I apply both flips?

Yes. Enabling both horizontal and vertical flips produces the same orientation as a 180-degree turn, while keeping the flip controls explicit.

Will words read backward after a horizontal flip?

Yes. Mirroring reverses all pixels, including letters, numbers, logos, and signs. Check the preview carefully when the source contains readable information.

Does the tool send my photo elsewhere?

No. Mirroring, cropping, previewing, and encoding happen locally in your browser, so nothing is uploaded for processing.
